Sited high in The Hollow on 179 acres, True North Farm is framed by breathtaking mountain views, spring fed ponds and terraced gardens. In collaboration with architect Michael Baker, the house is based loosely on a traditional farmhouse design with an attached barn. It is at once inviting and calming. The circa 2005 home evokes the feeling of a French country house, surrounded by organic gardens, outdoor rooms, broad meadows and highlighted by the backdrop of Mt. Equinox and Owls Head Mountain. The design was informed by a Buddhist theory of balance, which embraces the concept that the views are to be revealed gradually. Each space, inside and out, is designed for optimum impact and quiet inspiration. There is a timeless understated quality to True North.

One of the primary tenets was to create an energy efficient home, using a passive solar design and a geothermal system as the primary source for heating and A/C. The end result is a warm and comfortable home with a minimum environmental impact. 

Attention to the details of craftsmanship, materials and quality underscore the beauty of the property. Hardwood floors were sustainably harvested and locally milled. Barn siding and slate roofs were reclaimed and carefully installed onsite. Antique limestone floors and late 18th century French fireplace mantel, Marvin doors and Rocky Mountain hardware speak to architectural interest and enduring quality. Kitchen appliances meet the same high standard: AGA stove, Subzero, Bosch and Fisher Paykel appliances.

The East and West screened porches are used spring, summer and fall. A 3-bay, extra-deep garage is attached to the house in addition to the reconstructed post and beam barn. There are two lots zoned for building to make a family compound or to hold for investment. Carriage width trails on the property make for delightful exploration. The property is close to four golf clubs, skiing hiking and fly fishing. From New York 3:45 hours and from Boston 3:15 hours.
